Tashkent State Musical Comedy (Operetta) Theater

The Tashkent State Musical Comedy (Operetta) Theater was established in 1972. In August 1973, the theater celebrated its real birthday by opening its first theatrical season with Strauss's operetta The Merry Widow.
Today, the theater successfully hosts performances of the classical repertoire: "The Bat" (I. Strauss), "The Merry Widow" (F. Legard), "Bayadera", "Maritza", "Circus Princess", "Silva", as well as musical comedies "The Love Vertege" (D. Ilyin and V. Lukashov), "Dear Pamella", "The Sequel to Don Juan" (E. Radzinsky), "The Stolen Bride", "Khanuma" (G. Kancheli), "Krechinsky's Wedding", "A Strong Feeling" (based on the stories of I. Ilf and E. Petrov).

The playbill of the theater is rich in original works by Uzbek composers and playwrights. Musical comedies have firmly entered the repertoire: "The Wanderer in Love" (E. Salikhov), "Aunt, I'm getting Married" (A. Ikramov), the play "Heart in the Palm of your Hand", dedicated to the life and work of the People's Artist of Uzbekistan Batyr Zakirov.

Important attention is paid to the repertoire for children and youth. Among them are "The Bremen Town Musicians" (G. Gladkov), "The Common Pea" (A. Kanaki), "Puss in Boots", "Morozko", "The Enchanted Crystal".

It is important to note that the Tashkent State Musical Comedy Theater is the only theater of this genre in the Central Asian region. The theater's staff focuses its activities on enriching the repertoire with the most striking and original works not only by world classics, but also by modern, including Uzbek composers and playwrights.
