Academic Russian Drama Theatre
The Academic Russian Drama Theater of Uzbekistan was founded in 1934. Its organizers are Vasily Alexandrovich Chirkin and Mikhail Karlovich Vulkonsky.
On October 21, 1934, the first premiere took place – Lev Slavin's play "Intervention", followed by plays by V. Vishnevsky and A. Arbuzov, F. Schiller and V. Hugo, V. Shakespeare, J.B. Moliere, K. Goldoni, A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, A. Chekhov, A. Tolstoy, Hamza, A. Kahkhara. The acting troupe of the theater is his golden fund, vocation, authority and talent.
In the late 60s, military and civilian clubs began to appear in the cities of the region, as well as their meetings with drama and musical drama circles. Many of these clubs sought to bring their performances to a wide audience, to attract as many viewers as possible. The most popular were the plays of A.N. Ostrovsky. The largest troupe of Z.A.Malinovskaya has been playing the plays "The Bourgeoisie" and "At the Bottom" by A.M. Gorky since 1903.
As mentioned above, artistic director Vasily Alexandrovich Chirkin and director Mikhail Karlovich Vulkonsky are people who have done a lot for the development of theater culture. From 1934 to 1939. Vasily Chirkin has staged 16 performances. The most striking of them are "Mad Day, or the Marriage of Figaro", "Othello", "Peter the Great", "The Storm".
In 1936, the theater was named after A.M. Gorky. The Tashkent Drama Theatre has played a crucial role in the development of Uzbekistan's theatrical culture. He has always been a kind of link that cements the ties between Russian and Uzbek theatrical art. So, at the end of 1930, the team began its fruitful work with the works of Uzbek authors, the best embodiment of which was the play "Bai and the Farmhand" by Hamza. Later, his equally popular plays The Secrets of the Burqa (1956) and The Antics of Maisara (1960) were staged.
Plays by the great classic Alisher Navoi were also staged on the stage of the theater. Here the audience can see plays of different genres, authors from different countries.
In 1967, the theater was awarded the title of "ACADEMIC".
Today, the theater's staff, brought up on artistic traditions and modern achievements of the world theater, presents its new performances to the audience. The activities of the Tashkent Russian Drama Theater are one of the most striking examples of the creative collaboration of two national cultures.
