Samarkand Regional Music and Drama Theater named after Hamid

The Samarkand Drama Theater is one of the largest theaters in the city and throughout the republic, an important center of cultural life in the region. Its history began at the beginning of the 20th century, when a group of theater enthusiasts, consisting of representatives of different nationalities, joined forces to create productions and develop performing arts in Samarkand. Within a few years, the team became exclusively Uzbek, which reflected the formation of the national drama and theater school.

The modern theater building was erected in 1964 and became one of the most impressive architectural structures of its time. Large—scale and monumental, it is decorated with classical elements - columns, wide staircases and decorative ornaments. The spacious auditorium is designed for hundreds of spectators, has good acoustics and technical capabilities for large-scale productions.

Today, the theater remains one of the leading theater centers in Uzbekistan, where performances based on the works of Uzbek and world classics, modern dramas, musical and choreographic productions take place. His stage unites professional actors, directors and artists who continue the traditions of Uzbek theatrical art.

Due to its rich past, architectural expressiveness and creative activity, the Samarkand Drama Theater is rightfully considered one of the symbols of the cultural heritage of the city and a constant participant in all major festivals and events in the life of Samarkand.
