Jizzakh reservoir

Jizzakh region is one of the central regions in Uzbekistan between Syrdarya and Zeravshan. There is not enough water from the rivers for the fields in the arid climate of the region, so artificial reservoirs appear in it. One of them, the Jizzakh reservoir, was formed in 1973 on the Sanzar River in the Jailmasaya valley.

The reservoir was created using an earthen dam 5.5 km long and 20 m high. Filled with water, it reaches a volume of 100 million m3, almost drying up during the peak watering season. The maximum depth of the water body is 24 m with dimensions of 5.5 x 3.3 km.
