Many people usually consider the Zaamin National Park to be only a narrow gorge of the Uryukli-Sai River, starting just south of the village of Dugoba and ending with the Zaamin sanatorium and Rashidov's former summer residence.(By the way, another name of the park is associated with the secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan – Zaamin People's Park. Without going into environmental terminology, he said at one of the party forums that Uzbekistan is a multinational Republic, and the park belongs to all the peoples of the Republic and the USSR, and therefore it should be called not a national park, but a National Park). In fact, the Zaamin National Nature Park covers an area of 24110 hectares and stretches from north to south for 30 km, from east to west for 17 km.
The park is located in the Zaamin district of the Jizzakh region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 25 km from the district center of Zaamin and 55 km from the city of Jizzakh on the northern slopes of the Turkestan range. In the east, the park borders the Republic of Tajikistan, in the south it is bounded by the mountainous Supa plateau (Sufa), in the west by the valley of the Ettikechu River, and in the north by the village of Dugoba.
The Zaamin National Nature Park was established by Resolution No. 523 of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 8, 1976 "On the establishment of a winter sports center and a sports and recreation complex in the Zaamin Mountain Forest region." At that time, it was the first National Nature Park in the Republic of Uzbekistan and throughout Central Asia. Zaamin National Nature Park is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Nature Reserves, National Nature Parks and Hunting, the Main Directorate of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Today, Zaamin National Park is a favorite vacation spot for residents and visitors of Uzbekistan. During the summer months, local sanatoriums and campgrounds cannot accommodate everyone. Tourists and vacationers are attracted here by the pristine nature and fragrant archie, the purest mountain air.
Recently, much attention has been paid to organizing outdoor activities (hiking and horseback riding) in the vicinity of the park.
Of the interesting natural sites on the territory of the Zaamin National Park, one can distinguish:
- a seven-hundred-year-old walnut tree consisting of 2 trunks separated by a stream;
- Shar Shara waterfall over Rashidov's former dacha;
- a spring with healing water of Sher-Bulok;
- Chortanga canyons in the upper reaches of the Ettikechi River. Here, at the exit of a deep canyon, lie the ruins of the ancient fortress of Muk (Myk, Mug) and ancient Chinese mines-tunnels for the extraction of silver.;
- and of course, everywhere there are magnificent mountains covered with juniper forest (some specimens of juniper are thousands of years old).
