Salar Channel

The Salar canal in Tashkent and the Tashkent region originates from the Kibray district. Flowing through the city center, it crosses Tashkent from northeast to southwest, absorbing the waters of the Chauli and Burdzhar canals. It is noticeable that the channel has recently become less full-flowing.

According to historical information, the Salar Canal was dug a thousand years ago. But there are also opinions about the natural origin of the channel as a Chirchik channel. On one of the banks of the Salar River there is the ancient Minguryuk settlement, which is the ruins of the ancient settlement of Chach, the ancient name of modern Tashkent.

Legend has it that the ancient king of Tashkent was Zol, who held the aryk Zakh. The Iranian hero Rustam, who according to legend was the son of Zola, held the aryk Salar. It is unknown where the channel itself ends. To the right of the riverbed are large irrigation ditches Karakulduk and Niyazbash. The waters of Karakulduk and Karasu reach Chirchik.

Initially, the Salar Canal was a natural channel of the Chirchik River, which was transformed into a canal in ancient times. According to the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Salar is now the most polluted canal in the city.
