Dengizkul
Dengizkul is a lake in the south of Bukhara region, near the border with Turkmenistan. Its size depends on the discharge of water from neighboring reservoirs and on the melting of snow. The average area is 39 thousand hectares. It is mentioned in historical documents of the 10th century.
Since 1981, gas production has been carried out in the vicinity of the reservoir, which has a significant impact on the reservoir. In 1973, Dengizkul was declared a nature reserve. The main value of the protected area is birds. Among them are spoonbills, cormorants, pelicans.
Some of them live here permanently, some come to breed chicks. Savka ducks, which spend the winter here, are considered especially rare. Since 2001, the lake has been included in the list of the international Ramsar Convention.
