Ankhor Channel

Ankhor, which means "big irrigation canal", is located in Tashkent. The lake in the A. Navoi National Park is fed by the water of this canal. In pre-revolutionary sources, the channel was referred to as "Angor". There are several versions about the origin of this name: "Anzor", that is, "grapes", "Angor" — arable field, "Ankhar" - rivers.

At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, Anchor was the border between the old town and the new part of the city. The first modern bridge, the Urda Bridge, built in 1913, was built across this canal in Tashkent. It was originally made of wood, but was later rebuilt from brick.

On the banks of the Ankhor Canal are the Courage Memorial complex, the Urda residential area, the Turkestan Concert Hall, the Aksaray Presidential Office and residence of the President of Uzbekistan, the Senate building, the Pakhtakor Stadium, and a public garden. In the past, the old Tashkent fortress and the Kokand Urda fortress were located near Ankhor.

Walking through this beautiful and quiet place, you can admire all the above-mentioned sights of the city, and in the hot season, take shelter from the sultry heat under the shade of picturesque trees.

The Ankhor Canal is beautiful at any time of the year. In summer, it is a favorite place for lovers of swimming, and in winter, the snow–white snow covering the canopy of trees adds even more beauty to the landscape.
