Samarkand Railway Station
Samarkand Railway Station is a significant transport hub in Uzbekistan, connecting the third largest city with the capital, regions and neighboring countries.
The first railway station was opened on this site in May 1888. The station has been expanded and rebuilt several times to meet changing needs and technologies. The recognizable appearance of the building appeared at the end of the 20th century. In the interior decoration of the station halls, modern materials are intertwined with oriental motifs, stained glass windows and unusual chandeliers, creating a special flavor.
In recent years, efforts have been made to make the station space more comfortable and bring it in line with high standards of passenger service. For example, a new air conditioning system has been installed that allows indoor rooms to be cooled in the summer and heated in the winter.
If you are hungry or would like to buy something for the road, cafes and small shops are available, including local souvenirs. The station building provides restrooms and a medical room for emergency care, as well as a hotel for relaxing.
