Andijan Airport

The airfield was opened in 1954.

During the time of the Uzbek SSR, the airport had flights to both cities of the republic and other Soviet cities. In the period from November 1954 to May 1992, the 9th Guards Fighter Aviation Odessa Red Banner, Order of Suvorov Regiment was based at the airfield. The regiment was armed with MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-19P, Su-15 and Su-27 aircraft. After Uzbekistan gained independence, the 62nd Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Uzbek Air Force was formed on the basis of the regiment, at the same time, the country's national airline, Uzbekistan Airways, became based at the airport.

In 2015, Andijan Airport was awarded the status of an International Airport.

In 2018, the airport was closed for reconstruction, and in 2019 it resumed operations.

In 2020, Andijan International Airport was named after Zahir al-din Muhammad Babur Timurid, the founder of the Mughal Empire.

In 2019, there were plans to turn Andijan Airport into an "eco-airport", that is, to rebuild the airport so that the energy costs of the infrastructure are maximized by renewable energy sources[4]. By 2020, the runway was 3000x40 meters in size.

On April 1, 2023, the airport was closed for a large-scale reconstruction of the entire complex. The reconstruction affects the construction of a 3400x60-meter runway, steering tracks and aprons for 7 vessels.
