Railway Museum in Tashkent

One of the most interesting sights in Tashkent is the Museum of Railway Equipment, or as the locals call it, the "museum of Steam locomotives." Children will especially like it, because museum exhibits can not only be touched with their hands, but also fully explored from the inside!

The museum is located next to the building of the Northern Railway Station (Tashkent-Passazhirsky station), at a distance of about 400 meters to the northeast. The entrance is marked by a three-leafed white arch. In addition to railway equipment, the museum also presents equipment that was previously used on railways: semaphores, radio transmitters based on the Morse system, and much more. In the exhibition cars, you will be able to get acquainted with the uniforms of train workers from different years, awards for services to the railway, as well as the history of railway development in Central Asia.

The museum itself is more like a park, it has an elongated shape of almost a kilometer, so tours of it are carried out on a small steam train plying the territory. This is a favorite place of residents of the capital of Uzbekistan, where retro-style shootings, wedding photo walks are often held, and the whole family with children come here.

History of the museum

The Tashkent Museum of Railway Technology is a part of the Association of technical museums of the railway sector and the largest in Asia among the museums of this profile. The discovery took place at the turn of the 80s and 90s. The background of the event is connected with the celebration of the centenary of the railway in Central Asia. Collections of locomotives previously operating on this railway were demonstrated at the Tashkent Main Railway station. The aroused excitement among residents and visitors of the city, as well as the receipt of requests, prompted the city administration to leave the exhibition and make it permanent. Thus, on August 4, 1989, on the Railway Worker's Day, the museum solemnly opened its doors to visitors.

The exposition

The museum's collection of exhibits, consisting of more than a dozen steam locomotives, electric locomotives, wagons and other equipment used in railway repairs, is located in an open space. Several carriages contain objects telling about the history of the railway's origin and development in this region. The presented means of communication and the uniform of railway employees tell about the specifics of work in the last century.
