The State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan

The Museum of Nature is the first museum in Tashkent and in the whole of Central Asia. It was established in 1876 and for a long time existed due to charity from private representatives. The initiators of the museum's establishment were members of the Moscow Society of Nature Lovers. The institution has become one of the most important centers of scientific and educational activities. The collections of natural sciences of the Tashkent Museum served as the basis for the museum.

Since 1918, the period of cooperation between the museum and the National University of Turkestan began. At that time, the post of director of the museum was headed by Nikolai Zarudny, a famous researcher, specialist in zoology and traveler. During this period, the museum became known as the National Museum of Turkestan. A little later, the museum moved to the building that previously served as the representative office of the head of Turkestan — the so-called "white house". In 1921, the institution was transferred to the subordination of the Committee for Museum Affairs, which was responsible for the protection of historical monuments, at that time the museum was named the Main Museum of Central Asia. At that time, in addition to geological, geographical, zoological and botanical objects, the museum housed numismatic collections, objects of military history and art objects. Later, exhibitions with military historical and artistic exhibits were moved to other museums, and the nature museum was entirely devoted to vegetation and wildlife.

In 1930, the departments of the Museum of Nature were merged with the Museum of Agriculture and the Zoological Garden into a new institution — the Central Asian Museum of Nature and Industrial Forces. Already in 1935, the nature sector of this new institution was separated into a separate museum, which received its modern name — the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan.

In 2010, the museum was moved to a new building, and a large-scale inventory and restoration of exhibits took place.
