Muynak History Museum

The Museum of Local Lore of the History of Muynak and the Aral Sea, which is also known as the Muynak Ecological Museum, can be called one of the most unique museums in Uzbekistan. This modest museum by the standards of the capital, with only about two hundred exhibits, tells visitors the tragic story of a bygone era, when life was in full swing in the region and the Aral Sea was so large and full of water that it was called nothing but the sea.

The museum contains paintings by Soviet artists, old photographs, samples of flora and fauna, canned food produced by a local fish cannery, household items and folk art of the peoples who lived on the shores of the Aral Sea, and other artifacts that generally form a unified picture of the past and present of the Aral Sea.

The Museum of the Aral Sea was founded in 1984 in the House of culture of Uchsai village, Muynak district. In 1998, his exposition was moved to the house of culture in the center of the district, and in 2013 the grand opening of the reconstructed museum took place. A special place in the museum's collection is occupied by paintings by Karakalpak artists Faim Madgazin and Rafael Matevosyan, who depicted the Aral Sea on their canvases in the period from 1950 to 1980, with eloquent names.: "The sea is gone", "Ships in the sands", "Stranded", "Hope", etc. No less interesting are the documentary chronicles of the Aral Sea, which are shown to all interested visitors.
