Muynak Airport
Muynak is the airport of the city of the same name in the north-west of Uzbekistan, in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The northernmost airport in the country. It was opened in 1947.
During the time of the Uzbek SSR, Muynak airfield had a 3rd class, was capable of receiving An-24, Yak-40 and increasingly light aircraft, as well as helicopters of all types. The runway dimensions were 1500x40 m.
From the 1960s to the early 1990s, a flight of An-2 aircraft was based at the airfield, and up to 19 passenger flights per day were operated on local air lines (in particular, to the points of Kungrad, Nukus, Urgench, Takhtakupyr, Kazakh Darya, Aspantai, and Tuley).
Since the 1990s, it has been used as a landing site for aviation operations (in particular, for agrochemical measures to control locust outbreaks in the southern Aral Sea region).
During the period of modern Uzbekistan, it was decided to seriously reconstruct the airport. In 2019, a government decree was issued, which launched the reconstruction of the airport. Its cost was estimated at 300 billion soums.
The runway was increased to 2,300 x 60 meters, which made it possible to accommodate modern passenger aircraft. A new airport terminal was also built.
On August 26, 2020, a test passenger flight Tashkent—Muynak was performed on an A320 aircraft.
On February 23, 2022, Muynak Airport received the "flight No. 1" of the President of Uzbekistan for the first time.
On March 27, 2022, Uzbekistan Airways performed a test flight Tashkent — Nukus — Muynak.
