Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent

The Museum of Olympic Glory is undoubtedly the most sports museum in Tashkent dedicated to the Olympic movement, and the only such Olympic museum in all of Central Asia, which is proof that Uzbekistan pays a lot of attention to the development and popularization of various sports, including professional Olympic sports. The Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent tells the story of various competitions with international prestige: the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, various world championships in various sports, as well as the continental championships and other competitions.

History

The official document on the establishment of the museum was signed on August 14, 1996 with the participation of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The reason was President Karimov's visit to a similar institution in Switzerland. Then it was decided to open something similar in Uzbekistan. The Museum of Olympic Glory itself began its work in the second half of the 90s. The opening of the Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent successfully coincided with the fifth anniversary of the independence of the state on September 1, 1996.

The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests, including President Islam Abduganievich Karimov and Juan Antonio Samaranch— President of the International Olympic Committee. The head of the Olympic movement praised the Museum of Olympic Glory in Tashkent, noting that the Uzbek museum is practically in no way inferior to the Swiss museum of the same name in Lausanne. Juan Antonio Samaranch praised the President of the country for devoting a lot of effort and resources to the maintenance and development of sports in Uzbekistan, thanks to which the museum's collection is constantly increasing with the addition of new awards and medals of Olympic champions.
