Museum of Local Lore of Navoi region

It was established on January 30, 1992 under the name "Museum of Local Lore" based on the decision of the khokim of Navoi region No. 12/284. On December 15, 2017, based on decision No. 429, the museum was reorganized under the name State Museum of History and Culture of Navoi region, then the funds of the local history museums of Kanimeh, Khatyrchinsky and Tamdyn districts were transferred to it., as well as the Jabai Balimanov House Museum in Tamdy.

The museum has 4 branches, including the Sarmyshsai open-air museum-reserve with petroglyphs (for which an application for the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site has been opened).

It mainly contains expositions devoted to the history, archaeological finds, the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Zarafshan oasis (the territory of the Navoi region), natural and architectural complexes, including rock carvings.

As of 2022, there are 25,911 museum items and collections in the funds of the State Museum of History and Culture of the Navoi Region and its branches. According to the museum staff, about one hundred objects are unique. "Most of the unique objects belong to the departments of numismatics, archeology, ethnography and folk art. Among them are the remains of a Stone Forest found in the Mingbulak depression of Uchkuduk district and a hum, a large clay jug for storing water, which is 2,300 years old. It was discovered during an archaeological expedition in 1999-2000 on the Burkuttepa hill in the Karmaninsky district."
