Museum of Archeology

Termez is one of the most ancient cities in Central Asia. On its territory there are unique architectural monuments of the Kushan period, in particular the Buddhist temple complex Airatam, which is one of the architectural gems of Central Asia of the Kushan period. During numerous excavations, archaeological finds of the ancient, Greco-Bactrian, and Kushan periods of the history of Central Asia were found here, which, after numerous studies, were deposited with the Museum of the History of Uzbekistan and the Termez Archaeological Museum.

The museum was opened on the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of Termez on April 2, 2002. This museum, unlike the history museum, has a narrow specialization. Most of the exhibits are archaeological finds or are somehow related to archeology. There are no museums like the archaeological museum of Termez in Central Asia yet.

The Archaeological museum of Termez contains more than 27,000 exhibits. These are household items: dishes, utensils and much more; weapons, both ancient and medieval, coins and seals of rulers, etc. There is also a huge collection of paintings and antique sculptures. These are not only sculptures from the Greco-Bactrian period, but also Buddhist statues found in dilapidated monasteries of the Kushan period.

The main halls of the museum contain exhibits collected and arranged by period: from the Stone Age to the Khanate period. All the exhibits are well organized and catalogued, so that any visitor to the museum can easily find the object of interest.

There are also written sources among the exhibits of the museum: books, correspondence of rulers, economic documents. All these exhibits are kept in the museum's library, which has about 16,000 books and documents. Basically, all the literature in the museum is written in Arabic and Persian, which dates back to the Middle Ages.

The Termez Archaeological Museum is one of the few museums that offer visitors such a selection of exhibits from the ancient period of Central Asia. Many of the finds are unique and one of a kind. Museum visitors will have a lot of fun exploring the world of archaeology.
