Samarkand carpet Workshop
The Silk Carpets Samarkand-Bukhara carpet workshop was established in 1992. Although the company employs 400 people, it is difficult to call it a factory, since almost all processes from dyeing threads to creating masterpiece carpets are performed manually.
The lost traditions of carpet weaving in Uzbekistan, as well as neighboring countries such as Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, are being revived here.
A handmade carpet is a unique product that has not only aesthetic, but also practical value. It takes many months of work and tens of thousands of silkworm cocoons to make a single carpet. After the silk is extracted from the steamed cocoons and assembled into threads, the yarn is dyed in the required colors with natural organic dyes in huge vats. Dyes are obtained from leaves, roots, flowers and the peel of fruits of plants, minerals and insects.
The colors are also characteristic of the region where the carpet is produced. Red is the predominant color in Turkic carpets. This bright color expresses wealth, joy and happiness. Green symbolizes the sky; blue represents nobility and grandeur; yellow is believed to ward off evil.
Both classic oriental design and original sketches of the author are used to create carpets. Carpets woven from copies of famous paintings, biblical subjects, landscapes, portraits, and photographs are also in demand. It is incredible and amazing how the craftsmen create plots from threads with the photographic accuracy of the original.
Along with weaving silk carpets, wool carpets are also created in the workshop, as well as carpets with a combination of wool and cotton threads.
In the workshop, you can see the entire carpet production process, as well as choose from thousands of ready-made carpets and buy the one you like, which will delight you for the rest of your life. Tourists can also order the manufacture of a carpet according to their design and size.
