Kamol-Kazi Madrasah

One of the attractions of Kokand is the Kamol-Kazi madrasah, built in 1830-1832 in the classical traditions of Kokand architecture.

This small building is located to the west of the Jami complex. In the middle of the 19th century, Kamol-Kazi madrasah served as a Muslim higher educational institution for the children of the local nobility and consisted of a darshona classroom, hujr living quarters and a mosque.

Like other monuments of medieval Kokand, the only rich decoration is the entrance portal of the madrasah with cylindrical side towers, decorated with colored tiles and majolica in geometric style, Arabic inscriptions and domed lanterns. The entire Kamol-kazi complex is made of burnt bricks.

Behind the entrance portal stands the four-sided dome of darshona. One-story hujras surround a square courtyard (20x20m), which also houses a four-column mosque with an entrance to the east. The interior of Kamol Kazi madrasah is decorated with ganch and hand-painted.
