Jeyran Ecocenter

The Jeyran Ecocenter (nursery) for breeding rare endangered species was established in 1997.

The nursery is located in the southwest of the Kyzylkum desert, 42 km from Bukhara and has the status of a protected natural area. It is located in the department of the State Committee for Natural Resources of Uzbekistan.

The Jeyran Ecocenter has been recognized as one of the most effective breeding centers for rare ungulates. Over the past 30 years, viable populations of gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa subgutturosa), a vulnerable, declining subspecies, kulan (Equus hemionus Pallas), extinct in nature, and Przewalski's horse (Eguus przewalskii), an extinct species (world population is about 3,000), have been created.

In addition, the Ecocenter is home to other species of animals and plants, both common and rare, listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and the International Red Book.

The fauna of the territory consists of: mammals - 29 species, birds - 260, reptiles – 21, amphibians – 2, fish – 15, invertebrates - more than 300 species.

Of these, listed in the International and National Red Book: mammals – 2 species, birds – 23 species, reptiles – 2 species, fish – 2, insects – 6 species.

The main areas of activity of the Jeyran Ecocenter are the breeding of rare species and the rational use of population resources, scientific research in the field of studying the biology of desert species, ecological tourism, filming and excursions.

There are also separate excursions for children and young people, during which they can not only look at rare animals, but also participate in feeding young animals under the supervision of Ecocenter staff. Since the nursery is located in the desert, in summer it is better to go on an excursion there in the morning, when the sun is not so hot yet.
